Another fellow photographer and I were having some fun with portraits at the beach in Hudson! I would have to say (not sugar coating ANY of it) that although this journey HAS been a fun one, it was NOT EASY to start out with. A “lot” of the industry is incredibly “competitive.” Let me explain.
When I was just starting out, having fun and learning everything, it was very difficult (even in photography Facebook groups!) to find anyone to help me navigate through all of this. Obstacles such as troubleshooting my camera, learning how to get the light just right, figuring out why I was getting haze in my images, and even the “business questions,” were VERY hard to find answers to!! No one wanted to help ANYONE, and I found there was so much negative criticism with any question asked. It is important to remember that every photographer starts from the beginning and it was disheartening to experience all of the negativity.
I was BOUND AND DETERMINED to find the right, positively charged group of photographers and friends so that I could LEARN and HAVE FUN!
I took a few courses online and actually met some AMAZING photographers in the nearby area. The handful of ladies that I met are SOOO opposite from what I experienced starting out. Its like a flip of a switch. Some have been in the business longer, some just starting out, some better at marketing, some better at the mechanics of the camera. The best part? We all bounce things off of one another and encourage each other to grow as a photographer and in our businesses. AND I have gained so many amazing friendships through all of this! LET ME TELL YOU!!!! If you are starting out and need a point in the right direction, PLEASE come to me and I will gladly help!! HAH!
Here we have Bricelyn with Bricelyn Mackenzie Photo! One of those photographers I met later down the line (ha)! We chatted business, laughed, played dress up and had fun with our cameras! A christian at heart, she lives her life full of gratitude, love for others and is an amazing friend!
Because of my experiences, I am looking into providing more help and tips for the beginner photographer (or where ever you are at in your journey)! Be on the look out for more education and tips to help YOU!
XOXO
