Lets talk about hair & make-up for your session! For all of my portrait sessions, I always recommend my female clients to get their hair and make up done professionally.
Professional hair and makeup is preferred by most of my clients because it looks amazing on camera and removes the stress of getting ready on your own. This is the time to treat yourself! Whether its lash extensions or blown out hair, professional hair and makeup will give you an extra boost of confidence in front of the camera and always photographs like a dream!
If you’re working with a makeup artist, have her apply your makeup in natural light, if possible, so that it looks fresh and natural and not too heavy. Plus, that’s the type of light we will be shooting in, so it will give you the best expectation of how it will translate on camera. Most clients feel their professional makeup is “too much” at first, since it is more than you would wear on a normal day, or that the false lashes look too big, so if you feel that way at the beginning, don’t worry, it will photograph amazing! Good makeup artists know how to get it all just right for the camera- and clients always love the final result. Depending on which side of town you are, I have a few recommendations on artists as well!
I don’t ever want my clients to feel like their portrait session is just simply “taking pictures,” I want it to be an EXPERIENCE. So, if you arrive after an hour of being pampered + beautified, the entire experience has already started on a good note! This is one of 100 reasons hair & make-up for your session is so important!
If this is not in your budget, plan to wear slightly heavier make up than normal, including blush and lipstick/gloss that are at least slightly darker than your lip color. I also highly recommend false eyelashes. These can be purchased for very affordable prices at CVS/pharmacy in the area or amazon. Here is another great one!
